Serious Warnings & Precautions
Semaglutide has caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents. It is not known if it causes these tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans. Pancreatitis has been reported in patients treated with GLP-1 receptor agonists. Monitor for symptoms of pancreatitis. Acute gallbladder disease, including cholelithiasis or cholecystitis, has been reported. Monitor for signs and symptoms. Renal impairment has been observed in patients treated with GLP-1 receptor agonists. Monitor kidney function in patients with renal impairment.
Contraindications
Do not use Semaglutide if you or your family have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Do not use if you have a known hypersensitivity to semaglutide or any of its components. It is not indicated for use in patients with type 1 diabetes.
Common Side Effects
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and constipation. These side effects are often mild and tend to decrease over time as your body adjusts to the medication. Following the recommended dosing schedule can help manage these effects.
Drug Interactions
Semaglutide may affect the absorption of orally administered medications due to slowed gastric emptying. Use with caution with other medications that lower blood sugar, such as insulin or sulfonylureas, as this may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Your healthcare provider will review your current medications.
Important Safety Information
Always discuss your full medical history and all medications you are taking with your healthcare provider before starting Semaglutide. Report any unusual symptoms, especially severe abdominal pain or signs of an allergic reaction. Do not share your injection pen with others, even if the needle is changed, as this carries a risk of infection.
