Serious Warnings & Precautions
Serious side effects can occur. These include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems (gallstones), acute kidney injury, and severe allergic reactions. There is a potential risk of thyroid C-cell tumors based on animal studies; it is unknown if this occurs in humans.
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience persistent severe abdominal pain, yellowing of skin or eyes, or signs of an allergic reaction.
Contraindications
Ozempic should not be used in individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). It is also contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to semaglutide or any of its components.
It is not indicated for use in Type 1 Diabetes.
Common Side Effects
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. These effects are often mild and tend to decrease over time as your body adjusts to the medication.
Headache, fatigue, and indigestion may also occur.
Drug Interactions
Semaglutide can affect the absorption of orally administered medications due to slowed gastric emptying. Caution should be exercised when co-administering oral medications, especially those with a narrow therapeutic index.
Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
