Indication & Clinical Use

Tirzepatide Kwikpen is indicated for chronic weight management in adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or greater (obesity), or a BMI of 27 kg/m² or greater (overweight) with at least one weight-related comorbidity, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obstructive sleep apnea, or cardiovascular disease. It should be used as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Dosing & Administration

Tirzepatide Kwikpen is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection. Treatment typically starts at a lower dose and is gradually increased by a healthcare provider over several weeks to reach the maintenance dose. The available strengths include 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg. Your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate starting dose and titration schedule for you.

What It Is

Tirzepatide Kwikpen is a prescription medication used for chronic weight management in adults. It is intended for use in individuals with obesity (BMI of 30 kg/m² or greater) or those who are overweight (BMI of 27 kg/m² or greater) and have at least one weight-related medical condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol.

This medication is part of a comprehensive weight management plan that includes a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is administered as a once-weekly injection.

How It Works

Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. It works by mimicking the effects of natural hormones in your body that help regulate blood sugar and appetite.

By activating these receptors, Tirzepatide can help slow stomach emptying, which may make you feel fuller for longer. It can also help reduce food intake and improve blood sugar control.

Benefits

For eligible adults, Tirzepatide Kwikpen can support significant weight loss when combined with lifestyle changes. Many individuals experience a reduction in body weight over time.

Beyond weight loss, some individuals may also see improvements in weight-related health conditions. It offers a convenient, once-weekly dosing schedule.

Important Safety Information

Serious Warnings & Precautions

In animal studies, Tirzepatide caused thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). It is unknown if Tirzepatide causes MTC in humans. Patients should be counselled on the potential risk of MTC and symptoms of thyroid tumors. Serious warnings also include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems (including gallstones), acute kidney injury, severe gastrointestinal disease, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), and serious hypersensitivity reactions. Discuss any pre-existing conditions or concerns with your healthcare provider.

Contraindications

Tirzepatide Kwikpen is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). It is also contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Tirzepatide or any of its components. Consult your healthcare provider for a complete list of contraindications.

Common Side Effects

The most common side effects associated with Tirzepatide Kwikpen include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and abdominal pain. These side effects are often mild to moderate and tend to decrease over time as your body adjusts to the medication. Inform your healthcare provider if any side effects are severe or persistent.

Drug Interactions

Tirzepatide can delay gastric emptying, which may affect the absorption of orally administered medications. Caution should be exercised when co-administering oral medications that require rapid gastrointestinal absorption. Patients taking oral contraceptives should consider using a non-oral contraceptive method or adding a barrier method for a specified period after starting Tirzepatide and after each dose escalation. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking.

Important Safety Information

Before starting Tirzepatide Kwikpen, discuss your complete medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have a history of thyroid cancer, pancreatitis, kidney problems, or severe gastrointestinal disease. Monitor for symptoms of serious side effects such as severe abdominal pain, signs of gallbladder issues, or allergic reactions. This medication is not for use in patients with type 1 diabetes.
