Testosterone therapy may increase the risk of certain serious conditions. These include an increased risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke, particularly in older men. It may also worsen existing sleep apnea and can increase the risk of blood clots. Patients should be monitored for changes in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels and red blood cell count.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy is contraindicated in men with known or suspected prostate cancer or breast cancer. It should also be avoided in men with severe heart failure, severe untreated sleep apnea, or a history of blood clots in the legs or lungs.

Common side effects may include acne, hair loss, injection site pain or redness, mood changes, and fluid retention. Some men may experience an increase in red blood cell count, which requires monitoring.

Testosterone can interact with several medications. These include anticoagulants (blood thinners), corticosteroids, and insulin. Always inform your clinician about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking.
